Nós temos que dizer obrigada por você ter aceitado nossa entrevista. É um prazer conversar com você. Nós temos algumas perguntas sobre seus livros e sua vida como uma escritora.
Mia: Vocês são bem-vindas! Estou honrada!
1- Quando você escreveu Archer's Voice (A Voz do Arqueiro), você imaginou que o livro seria tão querido pelos leitores? Mia: Eu realmente não fazia! Realmente, o oposto. Quando eu escrevi AV, o homem alfa estava bem popular, e eu estava tão preocupada que meu herói tímido, carinhoso e deficiente fosse ridicularizado. AV continua sendo o único livro que chorei durante o upload para a Amazon porque estava muito nervosa.
2- Como foi seu processo de estudo para criar Archer Hale? Nós nos apaixonamos por ele.
Mia: Não muito, honestamente. Assisti a alguns vídeos do ASL (Linguagem dos Sinais Americana) no YouTube e me apaixonei pelo idioma. É realmente tão lindo!
3- Tornar-se uma escritora sempre foi um sonho pra você?
Mia: De modo nenhum! Eu meio que caí nisso. Foi uma das maiores surpresas da minha vida e um dos maiores presentes.
4- Houve alguma crítica (positiva ou negativa) que te marcou muito? Pode nos contar sobre isso?
Mia: Na verdade sim! Quando publiquei Leo pela primeira vez, eu não tinha ideia de que alguém o leria. Então, quando fui à Amazon para conferir e vi centenas de comentários, fiquei chocada. Um dos primeiros que li foi uma estrela, falando sobre como o livro era terrível, como ela ria o tempo todo lendo, etc. Eu me senti terrível e muito envergonhada. Mas, engraçado o suficiente, no final de sua crítica, ela disse: "Não posso acreditar que um livro tão ruim tenha entrado na lista dos mais vendidos do USA Today". Foi assim que descobri que havia listado! :D
5- Ainda em relação às críticas, você teve alguma crítica que a ajudou?
Mia: Eu costumava ler minhas críticas, mas não leio mais. Descobri que as vozes dos pessimistas ficavam presas na minha cabeça e às vezes levava dias e dias até que eu pudesse deixar isso para trás. Simplificando: as críticas negativas me ferem. Eu não tenho a pele grossa, e tudo bem. Faz parte de quem eu sou. Eu sinto as coisas profundamente. Mas antes de aprender que não era bom para minha alma criativa, eu os li e então tive uma boa ideia sobre o que os leitores amam na minha escrita e o que os leitores odeiam. Acho que é bom saber. O engraçado sobre a crítica de arte, porém, é que ela é tão individual. Uma pessoa pode dizer uma coisa e o próximo leitor pode dizer exatamente o oposto.
6 - Se você pudesse morar dentro de um de seus livros, qual seria?
Mia: Hmm. Talvez voto no Grayson. Eu poderia me ver vivendo em uma vinha para sempre! :)
7- Algum de seus livros foi inspirado em pessoas reais ou por algo que você viveu?
Mia: Não as histórias em si, mas definitivamente as emoções, as reações, etc. Eu coloco muito do meu próprio coração em meus romances.
8- O livro Leo gira em torno da chegada de Jake, o desaparecimento de Leo e a vida de Evie. É uma linda história! Existe uma mensagem específica que você gostaria de transmitir?
Mia: Acho que, no final das contas, todas as minhas histórias voltam ao mesmo tema: que as circunstâncias não podem ditar se você se apega ou não à esperança. É a única coisa que realmente nos ajuda.
9- Alguns de seus livros que foram publicados aqui no Brasil sofreram mudança de nome, um exemplo é o Leo que passou a ser “O Coração do Leão”. O título também é lindo, mas temos algumas dúvidas. Houve um processo para você aprovar a alteração?
Mia: Na verdade, não tenho nada a dizer sobre meus títulos estrangeiros. :(
10- A série The Signs of Love traz vários romances imperdíveis que nos fazem apaixonar pelos personagens. Você consegue criar os personagens sem se apaixonar por eles?
Mia: Definitivamente não. Eu sempre digo, se você não ama seus próprios personagens e sente algo profundamente por eles, os leitores também não irão.
11- Dentre seus livros, você tem alguma história favorita?
Mia: Se eu tivesse que escolher um? Provavelmente Calder e Eden.
12- Em cada um dos seus livros nos conectamos aos personagens. Não foi diferente com Kyland e Tenleigh. A luta entre os personagens por um futuro melhor é maravilhoso e é possível sentir esperança para que eles saiam de toda aquela situação em que estão. Você também sentiu isso?
Mia: Absolutamente. Comecei minha carreira de escritor com uma nota triste, com a perda de uma menina chamada Darcy Rose. Quando comecei a escrever, me apegava à ideia de que havia esperança a ser encontrada, mesmo em meu desespero mais sombrio. Eu encontrei essa esperança e quero que os leitores saibam, por meio de meus personagens, que eles também podem encontrar, independentemente de suas próprias circunstâncias.
13- Sobre a série "The Signs of Love", você teve alguma dificuldade em escrever as características dos signos do zodíaco ou foi algo que saiu instintivamente?
Mia: Sempre fui um escritor decente, então isso veio muito naturalmente. Mas desde meu primeiro livro, eu definitivamente melhorei, aperfeiçoei meu processo, etc. Minhas habilidades de escrita, espero, melhoram a cada lançamento. :)
14- Sobre o nosso blog, também falamos muito sobre adaptações literárias, e realmente queremos saber se isso é um sonho para você, ver sua história nas telas?
Mia: Definitivamente! Contanto que seja bem feito! :)
15- Você pode nos contar sobre seus novos projetos?
Mia: Estou escrevendo um thriller romântico que será lançado em outubro. :) Ainda não tenho uma data de lançamento exata, mas espero que em breve!
Obs: sugerimos à Passionflix que adaptem seus livros para a tela. Especialmente A Voz do Arqueiro.

We have to say thank you for accepting our interview. It’s a pleasure to talk to you. We have some questions about your books and your life as a writer.
Mia: You're so welcome! I'm honored! 1- When you wrote Archer's Voice, did you imagine that the book would be so dear to readers? I really didn't! In fact, the opposite. When I wrote AV, the "alpha male" was VERY popular, and I was so worried that my shy, tenderhearted, disabled hero was going to be made fun of. AV remains the only book that I cried during the upload to Amazon because I was SO nervous. 2- How was your study process to create Archer Hale? We fell in love with him.
Not a lot, honestly. I watched some ASL videos on YouTube and fell in love with the language. It's really so beautiful! 3- Has becoming a writer always been a dream for you?
Not at all! I sort of fell into it. It's been one of the biggest surprises of my life, and one of the greatest gifts. 4- Was there any criticism (positive or negative) that marked you a lot? Can you tell us about it?
Actually, yes! When I first published Leo, I had NO idea anyone would read it. So when I went to Amazon to check it out and saw hundreds of reviews, I was shocked. One of the first ones I read was a one-star, talking about how terrible the book was, how she laughed the whole time reading it, etc. I felt AWFUL and so embarrassed. But funny enough, at the end of her review, she said, "I can't believe such a bad book made the USA Today bestsellers list." THAT is how I learned I'd listed! :D 5- Still regarding the criticisms, did you have any criticism that helped you?
I used to read my reviews, but I don't anymore. I found that the voices of the naysayers stuck in my head and sometimes it would be days and days before I could let it go. Simply put: bad reviews wound me. I don't have a thick skin, and that's okay. It's part of who I am. I feel things deeply. But before I learned that it wasn't good for my creative soul, I did read them and so I have a good idea about what readers love about my writing, and what readers hate. I suppose that's good to know. The funny thing about art critique though, is that it's so individual. One person could say one thing and the next reader might say the exact opposite. 6 - If you could live inside one of your books, what would it be?
Hmm. Maybe Grayson's Vow. I could see myself living on a vineyard forever! :) 7 - Have any of your books been inspired by real people or by something you've lived through?
Not the stories, per se, but definitely the emotions, the reactions, etc. I put a lot of my own heart into my novels. 8 - The book Leo revolves around the arrival of Jake, the disappearance of Leo and the Evie’s life. It's a beautiful story! Is there a particular message you wanted to convey?
I think when it comes down to it, all my stories go back to the same theme: that circumstances cannot dictate whether or not you hang on to HOPE. It is the only thing that truly gets us through. 9 - Some of his books that were published here in Brazil have undergone a change in name, an example is Leo that became “O Coração do Leão” (The Lion’s Heart - in English). The title is also beautiful, but we have a little doubt. Was there a process for you to approve their change?
I actually have no say over my foreign titles. :( 10 - The series The Signs of Love brings several must-see novels that make us fall in love with the characters. Can you create the characters without falling in love with them?
Definitely not. I always say, if you don't love your own characters, and feel deeply for them, readers won't either. 11 - Among your books, do you have a favorite story?
If I HAD to pick one? Probably Calder and Eden. 12 - Each of your books we connect to the characters. It was no different with Kyland and Tenleigh. The fight between the characters for a better future is wonderful and it’s possible to feel hope for them to get out of all that situation they are in. Did you feel it too?
Absolutely. I started my writing career on a sad note with the loss of a baby girl named Darcy Rose. When I started writing, I was clinging to the idea that there was HOPE to be found, even in my darkest despair. I found that hope, and I want to let readers know, through my characters, that they can too, regardless of their own circumstances. 13 - About the series "The Signs of Love", did you have any difficulty in writing the characteristics of the signs of the zodiac or was it something that came out instinctively?
I've always been a decent writer so it came pretty naturally. But since my first book, I've definitely gotten better, honed my process, etc. My writing skills hopefully get better with every release. :) 14- About our blog, we also talk a lot about literary adaptations, and we really want to know if this is a dream for you, to see your story on the screens?
Definitely! As long as it is done well! :) 15 - Can you tell us about your new projects?
I'm in the midst of writing a romantic thriller that will come out in October. :) I don't have an exact release date yet, but hopefully soon! PS.: we suggested to Passionflix that they need to adapt your books to the screen. Especially Archer's Voice. Ahh! Thank you! :D
